Tinker Grant for Latin American Field Research
Tinker Field Research Grants provide graduate students funds for travel to Latin American and Caribbean countries that speak Spanish or Portuguese, and can also provide limited field research expenses. These awards cover master's and pre-dissertation fieldwork in Latin America during May-August. Students must plan to spend between 21 days and four months conducting field research and must have proficiency in either Spanish or Portuguese. Students must submit proof of language proficiency alongside their application, which must be obtained from a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the U of A.
Applications are due March 16, 2026, at 11:59pm. An informational session will be held February 6, 2026, from 2-3pm in Marshall 284 for students who are interested in applying. Awarded students must complete the University International Travel Registry and submit a travel authorization request through the University Travel System at least 30 days prior to departure. They must also attend and present at the Tinker Symposium to take place on November 5, 2026.
