Bilinski Fellowships for Dissertation Writing: Apply Now!

Doctoral Candidates in select fields-- apply to the Bilinski Doctoral Fellowship Today! 

The Bilinski Fellowship awards a total of $42,000 plus tuiition and student health insurance over a three semester period (Fall 2026-Fall 2027). The $42,000 includes support for Summer 2027. These funds can be used for research materials, fees, and living and educational expenses. Only students from the following PhD programs are eligible to apply:

  • American Indian Studies
  • Communication
  • East Asian Studies
  • English (Literature and Rhetoric, Composition and the Teaching of English)
  • Gender and Women’s Studies
  • History
  • Linguistics
  • Mexican American Studies
  • Middle Eastern and North African Studies
  • Persian and Iranian Studies
  • Philosophy
  • Second Language Acquisition and Teaching
  • Spanish and Portuguese
  • Transcultural German Studies

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents with at least a 3.9 GPA that have passed all comprehensive exams and completed at least 6 units of dissertation credit before Fall 2026. They must also have at least 25% of the dissertation left to complete. Students must demonstrate their financial need via the FAFSA application and must agree to attend at least 2 professional development opportunities through the graduate center per semester.
