Spring 2026 SBSRI Funding Competition Awardees!
The Spring 2026 Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Institute (SBSRI) funding competition awarded funding to 11 SBS graduate students and 6 SBS faculty members to support their research endeavors. These awards support research across the college in a variety of different fields.
SBSRI has awarded two graduate students Pre-Doctoral Research Grants. These grants award students up to $600 for PhD and Master's level research activities.
The awardees are:
Thais Rodrigues Cons, a PhD candidate in the Department of English (Rhetoric, Composition, and Teaching English), and
Amalia Sosa Haby, a PhD student in the Department of History.
SBSRI has awarded nine graduate students Dissertation Research Grants. These grants award students up to $3000 to support their dissertation research.
The awardees are:
Elise Arellano-Thompson, a PhD candidate in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment,
Asma, a PhD candidate in the Department of Linguistics,
Diana Khaziakhmetova, a PhD candidate in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment,
Tai Koester, a PhD candidate in the School of Geography, Development and Environment,
Nicholas Kolenda, a PhD candidate in the School of Global Studies (Middle Eastern and North African Studies),
Chaelin Kwon, a PhD candidate in the School of Government and Public Policy,
Amanda Pierson, a PhD candidate in the School of Sociology,
Patrick Robinson, a PhD candidate in the School of Anthropology, and
Luke Xin (辛陆), a PhD candidate in the School of Anthropology.
SBSRI has awarded six faculty members Faculty Small Grants. These grants award faculty members up to $5000 to fund faculty research projects, including standalone projects and seed research that could lead to external grants or fellowships.
SBSRI's awardees are:
Emma Blake, a Professor in the School of Anthropology,
Reid Gómez, an Associate Professor in the School of Global Studies (Gender and Women’s Studies),
Rain Liu, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication,
Mohana Mukherjee, an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Sociology,
Cristina Ramírez, a Professor in the Department of English, and
Sara Shuman, an Associate Research Professor in the Southwest Institute for Research on Women.
