WEES calls for 4 research grant proposals for FY2014 due in March and May 2013

Funded through the UA Water, Environmental and Energy Solutions initiative, these grants are fund projects that build on UA expertise and lead to the development of major proposals and external funding. Go to the WEES website for complete details under Funding Opportunities: www.wees.arizona.edu
1) RESEARCH GRANTS - up to $50K for FY2014 funding Proposals for seed grants for research projects that address water, environmental, and/or energy challenges relevant to Arizona, have broad applicability and demonstrate cutting edge scholarship are invited.  Proposals should show: strong collaboration across academic units; integration across at least two areas in the water-environment-energy nexus; potential for deliverables such as new major grant proposals, technology transfer, and external partnerships; and provide opportunities for graduate student training.   Proposal Deadline: March 8, 2013
2) NEW CENTER PROPOSALS - $50k to $100K/year for FY2014-FY2016 WEES is soliciting proposals for startup funding to establish new interdisciplinary research centers at the University of Arizona focused on three priority areas: energy/water, food/water, and health/environment. Proposed centers should address major challenges relevant to the Southwest in one of these priority areas and demonstrate potential for exceptional return on investment through external grant or foundation funding; development of innovative research programs, activities and new technologies leading to real-world application and commercialization where feasible; institutional and/or external partnerships and match (financial and in-kind); and provision of opportunities for student training and workforce development.   Proposal Deadline: March 25, 2013
3) WEES COST-SHARING FY2014 WEES has funding available to provide cost-sharing on larger proposals (preferably $100K+) to external funders on a continuing basis. Requests are evaluated according to their relevance to WEES and potential for return on investment.   Deadline: Ongoing  
4) WEES PROPOSAL SUPPORT - up to $20K for FY2013 Each year, WEES has limited funding available to support the development of large grant proposals. Requests for a maximum of $20K for proposal development support are accepted on a continuing basis. Funds may not be used for food or faculty salaries.   Deadline: Ongoing    
* Funding is also still available for small grants for Speakers and Workshops held before May 31, 2013
