VPR accepting National Science Foundation IGERT pre-proposals until January 25, 2013

Nov. 30, 2012

The Office of the Vice President for Research is accepting pre-proposals for NSF's Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Program. An institution may submit no more than one proposal.
Although the 2013 announcement for this program has yet to be released, the 2012 guidelines can be found at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2011/nsf11533/nsf11533.htm. Based on previous years, the letter of intent is expected to be due about May 1, 2013 with the full proposal due about July 1, 2013.
All pre-proposals involving a particular college should be ranked by the dean of that college. Proposals should be submitted to Connie Garcia (garciac1@email.arizona.edu) in the Research Office by Friday, January 25, 2013.  The pre-proposal should include:
(1) a two-page summary of the proposed program. The summary should include the following elements, paralleling those required by NSF in the full proposal and defined in the NSF IGERT guidelines:
a) preliminary list of participating faculty, and other participating institutions if planned
b) vision, goals, and thematic basis for the proposal
c) major research areas
d) central education and training mechanisms
e) other information relevant to the proposed program.
(2) brief curriculum vitae of the principal and co-principal investigators
(3) if relevant, a copy of the previous reviews of the proposed program.
If more than one pre-proposal is received, our office will convene a committee of peers to perform a scientific review. Final selection of the University’s candidate will be based on dean ranking, scientific quality, and alignment with University strategic directions.
