Confluencenter Graduate Fellowships deadline March 29th

The Confluencenter Graduate Fellowships are designed to fund specific projects up to $5,000. Awards are for eligible graduate students in an effort to build a community of scholars to advance innovative interdisciplinary research. Candidates for selection must demonstrate evidence of innovative scholarship or creative work that can advance a field in the arts, humanities or social sciences. Selected students will be part of the first cohort of Confluencenter Fellows and they will be expected to devote at least one semester to a special project under this program and to be available to present their results in a symposium, lecture series or public venue to be determined by Confluencenter. Fellowship recipients will be required to present their research and/or accomplishments before the end of the fiscal year. The names and photographs of award recipients will be posted on the Confluencenter website along with a description of their research.

Seeking a terminal degree of Ph.D. or MFA (as recognized by the Graduate College) in the College of Humanities (COH), Social and Behavioral Science (SBS) or College of Fine Arts (CFA).
Graduate students enrolled in Interdisciplinary Programs (e.g., American Indian Studies, Second Language Acquisition and Teaching) with significant research interests in arts, humanities and social sciences.
Applicants may be domestic or international students.

FELLOWSHIP PROJECT GUIDELINES AND ELIGIBILITY:Fellows will use the Confluencenter funds to develop a special project related to their research interest or to cover other expenses related to the project including:
Personal support
Materials and equipment
Project-related travel
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:Each applicant should submit as an electronic copy (PDF preferred) through the Confluencenter website:• A brief summary of the project, including how it fits into the broader research context (maximum 500 words);• Plans for a specific project to be undertaken as a Confluencenter Fellow (a maximum of 1250 words explaining the rationale and expected outcomes of the project);• A concise explanation about how the requested funds will help to advance or complete the project;• Budget for project expenses;• A curriculum vitae;• Two letters of support for the applicant. One must be from the department head or major advisor and one from any other faculty member familiar with the applicant’s work.

SELECTION:Applications will be reviewed by a panel drawn from the Confluencenter's faculty advisory committee, graduate advisors, other faculty members, and community members.Disbursement of funds will begin after July 1, 2013. Projects must be completed by May 30, 2014. Selected fellows will be notified via email by May 6, 2013.
