The whole staff, and nothing but the staff

By Aleah Weber

Have you ever wondered what SBSRI is, who we are, or what we do? SBSRI is an organization that supports the research of faculty and students in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Our staff in includes:

  • Cecile McKee, Director of SBSRI and Professor of Linguistics. Cecile oversees SBSRI. She's been associated with the U of A since she came here as a postdoctoral fellow in 1988. Her own funding has included Fulbrights, the James S. McDonnell Foundation, and the National Science Foundation (NSF). In 2003, she helped with SBSRI workshops after working as a Program Director for NSF's Linguistics Program. Eight years later, Cecile became a Faculty Fellow for SBSRI and mentored other UA faculty and students in their grant-writing efforts.
  • Beth Stahmer, Research Support Manager. Beth advises faculty and students on fellowship and grant applications, identifying funding opportunities, and assisting Cecile in planning and hosting various SBSRI events. Beth received her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at the University of Iowa in 1986, and completed her master’s degree in Gerontology at UA in 2006. She was employed as a Program Coordinator for several major NIH grants at the College of Nursing and the Department of Pediatrics. Before joining SBSRI in December 2012, she worked as the sole grant writer for Casa de los Niños.
  • Diane Daly, Graduate Research Associate. Diane received her master’s degree in Information Resources & Library Sciences in 2012 at UA, and is now pursuing her doctoral degree. Diane joined SBSRI in January of 2011. She's the lead on our website and helps with outreach especially for SBS graduate students.
  • Walter Whalen, Undergraduate Administrative & Research Assistant. Walter joined SBSRI in 2012, and is responsible for updating the funding opportunity and faculty databases, and identifying and writing stories for our website. He is currently seeking his bachelor’s degree in History and Arabic at UA.
